I get a lot of customers complaining they can’t open our calendar. This is losing us business. It doesn’t happen to everyone. I feel it must be something to do with the photos. I’ve had a few computer specialists look at this, but nothing seems to work.

Hi there,

Can I ask what makes you think its due to the images?

I’ve had a few computer specialists look at this, but nothing seems to work.

What have they tried so far?

If you take a look at the servers error logs do you see any errors from Event Espresso or the calendar there?

I tested the calendar on your site using a couple of different browsers and didn’t run into any problems, but is it happening at a specific time or randomly?

Honestly, I don’t understand a lot of what they explain to me. It may not be the images, but they mentioned the speed of loading and we talked about the size of my pictures. The last person to look into it did some things and never even charged me. I think she just gave up on it! I went in recently and deleted 3 years worth of past events thinking that would help, but I’m still getting people emailing me that they can’t get the calendar to load. I’ve asked people what browser they were using and it’s been a mix of everything. Seems to be random. I’m OPEN to ANY suggestions. Thank you!

Hi there,

I’m not seeing any issues with your calendar page on your site. One thing to keep in mind is if there’s a bandwidth limitation the calendar could take a very long time to load.

One thing that will help is you could put a message at the top of the page (before the calendar) that directs anyone having difficulty with viewing the calendar to click a link to go to the /event-registration/ page on your site.

Thank you Josh, I’ll pass that suggestion along. Hopefully, I can get it resolved. I appreciate it!

Just to confirm, when your getting reports of this do the users just see the spinning cog? Like so – http://take.ms/sBq3g

Do you know what kind of hosting you are using? Shared?

Its unlikely to be the images as the calendar on your site is loading 150px by 150px images and with the way the calendar works, it doesn’t actually ‘load’ the images it links to them and your browser loads them so it wouldn’t stop the calendar from loading completely.

Do you have access to the error logs for the server on your hosts control panel (usually you will have a section to view the logs), if so check for any errors from either Event Espresso or the Event Espresso calendar and post those here.

As Josh mentioned above, the calendar can sometimes take longer to pull all of the events in from the database as it depends on how busy your server is, if your using a shared server the calendar basically needs to wait its turn before it can pull the details, that may take longer than expected but you’d usually see some kind of error in the logs with that.

Tony,
Thank you for the follow up! Yes, they are getting that circle spinning. I’m having my son take a look at it this weekend. He is a graphic artist and knows a bit more than I do about all of this. I’ll see about pulling the error messages. Thank you!!!
Amy

You’re most welcome.

Unfortunately, so far I’ve not been able to get the calendar to fail either, which is a good thing, but we don’t know whats happening unless we can see the problem or an error so it’s not good right now 🙂

I’d advise your son to use whichever dev tools his browser has available, for example Chrome has Chrome dev tools and to watch the ‘console’ section for any errors, if any are thrown post those here (text size error can be ignored).

Or if he can get access to the servers error logs, any errors from Event Espresso saved in there may also help.
