WordPress Version: 3.5.1 |
Hello Susannah, Did you happen to install any new plugins or a new theme while setting up your events? If so, active those and see if the calendar comes back. |
I checked your calendar page and it appears that the calendar shortcode is not parsing. If this started happening after an event was added to the system it may be one of two things: 1) There is some content in an event that is causing the calendar to not load up. 2) It’s hitting a query limit where the server stops processing the calendar before it can load up. #2 may be resolved by updating to the latest version of the calendar add-on (we’ve added a few improvements to squeeze some efficiency out of it). #1 can be troubleshot by checking the events that were added to see if there is anything out of the ordinary in the event content; The server’s error logs can also be checked too. |

-No new plug-ins or themes have been installed. |
What version of the Events Calendar add-on are you using? The current version is 2.0.6.2. I checked your calendar page, and it is running 180 database queries, which is probably near the limit. You can reduce that number considerably if you turn off registration limit checking on the calendar. |
We are using version 2.0.6.2 for the Events Calendar. I did turn off the registration limit checking on the calendar (under Calendar Settings, I changed “Display Attendee Limit” to NO. Unfortunately, it did not fix the problem. Before I can add a new event to the calendar, I have to delete another active event. This is not working for us. Hope you can help. |
Can you try changing the shortcode on the calendar page to say: [ESPRESSO_CALENDAR show_expired=”false”] |
Our current calendar page: I did put the word (false) in quotes, but it didn’t fix the problem. |
Hi Susannah, It looks fine from our end: |

PLEASE READ THRU THIS ALL the Way Through: Today the Calendar looks fine, but my client cannot add a single additional item or it will disappear again. Have been using this program for quite some time, changed nothing except to add events: we checked system , code wrappers, updated everything. Is it time to JUMP SHIP from Event Expresso? My client, a local library, has a very reasonable number of events, but finds this specific calendar disappearing issue a big problem.. they are 100% stuck. It’s not workable. They and we have DONE ALL YOU SUGGESTED.. So..what’s next Josh? Care to log in and take a look around? They’d appreciate this a lot. Many thanks! |
I’m sorry, I did read through your entire thread. Several times. How many events are in the system? How much memory is allotted for PHP? The server seems to be hitting a query limit. This can be resolved by contacting the host to allow for more memory/a higher query limit -or- reducing the amount of queries the calendar uses. One way to reduce this is by turning off some of its features like category colors, tooltips, or event times. |

Sorry.. your email saying it looks fine.. figured you didn’t see the entire sad thread. We are the host, there is more than enough memory. How many is too many for Event Espresso please? hey cannot turn off color or times or basic information.. already turned off.. cannot add a single additional event without it malfunctioning. Display Attendee Limit is already off.. ideas,.. please… Care to log in and see this for yourself? It’s a local library.. this should be able to work for their needs, I would think.. |
There are many factors. Since you are the host, how much memory is being allocated to PHP? Sidney mentioned earlier that the calendar page was using 180 queries at that time. Now it’s using 104, which is much lower. Have you looked at the event information they are trying to add? Is there content being added to the event that looks out of place like a shortcode from another plugin or theme? Are there images being added to the event’s description and if so, are there any SEO plugins that are active that change the links to these images? |
Josh, I have been putting a lot of media pictures in the event descriptions. I removed many of them that were not necessary and it looks like the calendar issue is fixed! Thank you so much. It was frustrating. Thanks for hanging in there with us. |
That’s good to know. One thing that can happen is if there are images in the event’s description and there’s an SEO plugin installed that alters the image links it can have an affect on the calendar too. |
