Guys,

So you’ve really painted me into a corner, I installed Decaf, played around with it a lot, seems like a good plugin. Tried to add a page to my menu and there’s Decaf blowing the Page option off the admin page. Can’t add a PAGE to my menu you – found it’s a bug, supposed to be fixed, download the .zip try to install – chaos ensues. Get tired of trying to fix decide to deactivate and see if page option returns – CAN’T DEACTIVATE white screen of death. Very very very scary bad experience, had this this plugin in mind for 3 project I’m working on confidence shaken very badly. May have to recant my recommendation to a friend of mine who is also considering the plugin. PLEASE help me resolve this and restore some confidence.

Hi Scott,

When you see a white screen this normally means there is a fatal error being thrown somewhere, to view the error you need to enable WP_DEBUG, for that you need access to the files on the server.

To de-activate any plugin within WordPress when you don’t have access to the admin you need also access to the files on the server.

Do you have FTP access? Or a control panel from your hosting provider? cPanel has a built in file manager for example.

If so navigate to /wp-content/plugins/

There you’ll find the event-espresso-decaf folder. Rename it to anything other than what it is now, that will de-activate the plugin on the next page load and get you back into the admin.

It sounds like you may have multiple versions of Event Espresso activated on the site which will throw a fatal error.

Tony,

So I did rename the folder – it’s deactivated but I still get no Page Menu in the menu admin. Rather an odd effect for a deactivated plugin… I’m befuddled.

I can’t help but think there is still something crawling around in there left over from this plugin.

BTW I also deactivated all plugins and activated twentysixteen theme just in case – still no Page Menu option. Weird

I found this:
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/breaks-wp-menu-admin-when-activated

Is there some reason the WP Repos has an out of date version when there is such an egregious bug in it? I mean come on it breaks the Menu Admin that’s a pretty big deal.

Update: In the mean time I found going through the Customizer and editing the menu there works.

Wanted to let anyone else having this bug know at least they can continue to add Pages to their menu while waiting for the Patch to be released.

They are actually 2 separate plugins.

Decaf is based of of Event Espresso regular but is its own plugin, the link Josh provided is regular.

Thanks for posting your workaround.

We will be pushing an update for Decaf early next week that will fix the menus.

Awesome thanks for the update. There sure are a lot of flavors of espresso it’s all rather confusing. I’ve looked and never really found a great explanation of the differences.

If I ultimately do buy the paid version what version would I then be running?

In a nutshell Event Espresso Decaf is the free version of EE, it comes with no support and minimal features.

Event Espresso Regular is the full version of the plugin.

(There is also EE3 Lite and EE3 which are the older versions of Event Espresso)

You would be purchasing a support license for Event Espresso Regular.

Depending on the license you chose you may also have access to the EE add-ons.
