I have events that occur monthly, they keep the same name and description. The only thing that changes is the date/time. What is the best way to deal with the events that already occurred? For example, I have an event called Salesforce Training each month, but I don’t want to make a new event each time, I want to use the same one and then just make new datetimes. But I also see the past datetimes in the ‘Event datetimes & tickets” section. Is there a way to hide the past datetimes, or am I doing it all wrong?
In the screenshot you’ll see the event ‘Add title optional’ (I originally didn’t name it). Let’s say that it had prior registrants and can’t be deleted but occurred in the past. Is the best practice to just leave it there or to change the date and use it as the next months event?
It would not be best practice to change the date and use it as the next months event because it already has registrations for a prior date. Which would make for a very confusing registration list.
Usually it’s best practice to add a new event when it’s another event with separate registration. If the new event has very similar content to an existing event, you can make use of the Duplicate button, then simply change the start and end dates when preparing the post for the new event.
As aside, if having duplicated content is a concern for SEO, you can add this snippet to your site to tell search engines to not index past event posts:
You can add the above to a functions plugin or into your WordPress child theme’s functions.php file.
