I currently have an event with multiple, paid ticket options. I want to give out free passes to this event, but with the following in mind:
a) I don’t want to advertise nor make any mention of it in my existing event.
b) I want to include additional fields that are not currently in my existing event.
c) Majority of the time the passes will be free, but there may be instances where a fee may be applied.
My solution is to create a separate event with full price tickets. This will allow me to satisfy criteria (a) & (b). Then use the promotions add-on to create a 100% off code for the free passes.
To satisfy criteria (c), a discount code of 98% off will be made to create the illusion of a 2% fee.
Would this be an ideal solution for my needs? Or is there something in Event Espresso I haven’t considered that’s a better fit?
You could use the above set up and there’s nothing that stands out for me that could cause a problem with it.
However, another option is to require the users with ‘free passes’ to log into the site and have a free/discounted ticket on the event available to them. It will take some additional code on your site to hide tickets that are not available to others etc but it is doable if you prefer that option and you’re familiar with PHP.
It depends on how you want it to work, if the free passes are more like a yearly membership then the latter will work better for your users, if the passes are a one off on a specific event then discount codes work better.
