How can I back up events, data and settings from my current live site to a new host and new theme, while maintaining the customizations we’ve done such as showing images in the calendar etc?
To summarize, Event Espresso stores information in native WP tables and its own custom tables so you can move just the custom tables as you’ll have missing information.
using that plug in is expensive. How can I do it without that?
Further, I can’t update my plugins on my new test server because the license is only for one URL, even though Im moving the site to a new host.
Additionally is there a way to maintain the code that I paid a dev to tweak for me which keeps pics in the calendar view?
You can manually update your plugins on the testing site by removing the old versions, and then download a new copy from your account page, and then uploading them to your site.
While, there is a cost with WP Migrate DB Pro, it makes the migration process much easier and it handles serialized data. You could check into Backup Buddy or the Duplicator plugin (free).
This thing to remember her is that you cannot move over only the Event Espresso database tables so that is why I suggested a tool to make the process easier.
I’m not sure how the customization to the events calendar was applied. Was that through some custom CSS?
