Description of the issue: Member pricing is not automatically applied to logged in members.

Notes: We are currently using EE3. We have a paid annual and lifetime membership model, which provides our members discounts to events, apparel, etc… The E-Commerce site automatically recognizes a member Vs. a subscriber or non logged in user and displays a price discount to the members automatically that is simply not visible to subscribers or non logged in users.

The closest we could get to that with EE3 is have registrants choose between member pricing and regular pricing (which resulted in a lot of people choosing the lower price despite not being eligible for it, and a lot of subsequent rework, and explanations). Currently we are using promotion codes for the members which applies the discount but is less then ideal, as we now have a fair amount of mistakes from the members, resulting in refunds or tracing credits, until they get the process down which typically takes 2 – 3 registrations…

Question: Is EE4 session aware of various user roles in WP Users (Subscriber Vs. Member Vs. Admin) and is it possible to translate that to awareness automatically to pricing via EE4 natively – or by using a member management plugin of some sort?

Hi Patrick,

The short answer is Yes, Event Espresso can even display different tickets to ‘Members’, Subscribers, Admins and non-logged in users if required.

However this depends on how you have set-up the Members on your site as this is done using the users capabilities, not role.

So, can I ask how have you set-up ‘Members’?

Are you currently using a membership plugin or is just a custom role that has been added to the site?

Tony,
Thanks. We are not using a plugin currently to manage users. We customized magneto commerce to change a users role when they purchase a membership to member.
We currently use three roles – Member, Subscriber and Admin.
Is there an instruction or document somewhere that covers this, and is it achievable in EE3 as well as in EE4?
Best,
Pat

Event Espresso 4
Event Espresso recognizes certain capabilities (https://codex.wordpress.org/Roles_and_Capabilities), by settings a certain capability required for the event (https://eventespresso.com/wiki/wp-user-integration/#ee4usage). So, as long as you assign a capability to the ticket or to the user/role, then certain tickets will only be available to that role of user.

Event Espresso has capabilities built in so you can use a role/capabilities plugin: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/event-espresso-4-roles-permissions/

Event Espresso 3
Event Espresso has the Roles & Permissions Basic (https://eventespresso.com/wiki/roles-and-permissions-basic-add-on/) and Roles & Permission Pro (https://eventespresso.com/wiki/roles-and-permissions-pro-add-on/) add-ons. They work a little differently and I think Event Espresso 4 would work better in your case because you can control the access per ticket.
