I set up an event with just one date and assumed that the system would send the Automated Upcoming Event Notification. I had created a custom notification with the Zoom link in it so it was important that the Event be sent, not the Event Datetime. Instead I got the Datetime and do not understand why. The Event Note was set to my custom note and the Datetime note was set to Global. Do I need to disable the Datetime Global note? Would that mean I can never send a Datetime Note? I have many events all scheduled at different times and would like to use the Datetime Note when there are multiple Datetimes and the Event Note when there is only 1 Datetime. |

Hi there, Once the Automated Upcoming Event Notification add-on (AUEN for short) is activated and the message types enabled (both are disabled by default), all of the events on your site will use the global templates by default. This was a design choice to prevent the need for users to update each event on the site and select the message to enable it. That means that if you enable both the DateTime and event message types all of your events will use both by default, did the event notification not also trigger?
If you only want to use it on specific events, then yes. Go to Event Espresso -> Messages -> Default Message Types -> Automated Upcoming Datetime Notification. Click ‘Edit Registrant’. Click the toggle switch at the top of the page to disable that notification (I would also recommend setting the ‘To’ field to be empty). It is possible to disable the upcoming datetime notifications globally and still have the option to enable it on specific events, which leads to:
No, what you can do is create a custom template from the default Automated Upcoming Datetime Notification message and set that one up to be active. That way the global notification is disabled but on the events you want to use it on you specifically set it to use the custom template. To do that look at the Default Message Template list table again, to the right of the ‘Automated Upcoming Datetime Notification’ message type is a ‘Create Custom’ button, click that. Now you’ll be editing the custom template, give it a meaningful name and switch to the ‘Registrant’ context’ (See HERE). Enable it and set the To field to On the events you want to use the DateTime message, set the custom template in the Notifications section: https://monosnap.com/file/PUs0D8XhB8fUgb9FCeSAgtW3uPyjiS — With the above setup, the Event notification should be used by default on all events. If you want to enable the Dateime notification you set it to use the custom template. If you also want the ability to disable the Event notification on those events, you’ll do the same only use the custom template to disable the message type rather than enable. |
