We are getting what’s apparently a well known error from Authorize.net:

An error occurred while trying to report this transaction to the merchant. An e-mail has been sent to the merchant informing them of the error. The following is the result of the attempt to charge your credit card.

Our server is http://lifering.org; our Relay Response URL is
http://lifering.org/?page_id=10411

which redirects to
http://lifering.org/thank-you-and-return-payment-page/

Before I added the second page to the Authorize.net configuration it wouldn’t work at all; now it works but we get the error and it scares our customers even though the payment actually goes through. I’ve read through the thread from August 2012 and found that there’s a suggested “stripped down transactions page template” at this link:
https://eventespresso.com/topic/problems-with-incomplete-payments-download/

Is that still the recommended fix for this problem? We don’t use HTTPS and the box requiring it for the return URL is not checked.

Hi Kivy,

Could you confirm that you are running the latest version of Event Espresso 3?

Also, could you ensure that the Event Espresso pages are set correctly in WP-admin –> Event Espresso –> General Settings.

The URLs that you shared are for the same page. The second URL is just a pretty version instead of a numeric number (used when pretty permalinks are off).

We run Event Espresso 3.1.36.5.P which your main page lists as the current version.

I verified the Event Espresso pages are correctly set up. The “thank you and return payment page” is the configured AUTO RETURN URL. We use “Month and Name” permalinks:
Month and name http://lifering.org/2014/05/sample-post/

I didn’t set up Event Espresso this time, I’m consulting based on the fact that I worked out the original setup 2 years ago. We got errors this year until I put both URL versions into the authorize.net configuration.

Is the stripped down transaction page template still the recommended fix for the Authorize.net error we’re seeing?

Hello again Kivy,

Could you try re-testing on defaults:

+ default WP theme
+ only Event Espresso running

Well, really, no, not on a busy site on which we’re trying to sell tickets to an event that happens in 3 weeks. Event Espresso is working fine, the problem is the Authorize.net timeout. In fact, I tried your stripped down page and it doesn’t work with the Gantry-based theme (Chapelco) which we bought from RocketTheme. However, Gantry themes allow you to customize pages, so I built an override just for the transaction page which has no display widgets at all, not even a logo; and a sample transaction I tried went through with no error. I consider this fixed.
