The plugin is updated to the latest version. Nothing has changed. Still there is a ‘technical problem’ notification when people try to sign in.
Please help!
Kind regards,
Sya

It is for attendees not possible to apply for an event. The message is: ‘there are technical difficulties’. Everything is updated. Running latest php version (tried older ones but did not work). I tried disabling all other plugins. Did not work.
The core function of the plugin does not work. Please help!

Kind regards,
Sya

Ok, so this error:

PHP Fatal error: Uncaught ValueError: Unknown format specifier “v” in /wp-content/plugins/event-espresso-core-reg/core/libraries/shortcodes/EE_Event_Shortcodes.lib.php:82

Is not related to the EE update, it means your server has moved from PHP8.0 to PHP8.1+

We fixed the translation string responsible for this a long time ago, do you have any custom translations in /wp-content/uploads/espresso/languages/?

And I did not want the website being translated into English. I uploaded the files because it works to translate the website to Dutch.

I did update the server today.

Some things have changed, in your opening post, you mentioned nothing changed?

I could not update the server before. I had to update the plugin manually also because it would’t do it automatically.

From which version previously?

There was an error before that.

Which error? I can only work from the info you send over.

I’m more worried about:

That’s the same error.

I removed the languages from the upload folder. It did not work. Stil the same problem.

Exactly the same error thrown in the logs?

The issue with the error you’ve provided is with an incorrect translation, if you have old translation files loading on your site they’ll have the old string loading.

And I did not want the website being translated into English.

Then don’t remove the translation files? You can update them rather than remove them but first, we need to confirm which file is loading so we can actually fix the file in the correct location.

I uploaded the files because it works to translate the website to Dutch.

Sure, I didn’t suggest removing the files.

You can download the latest translation files from here our GlotPress site.

PO:
https://translate.eventespresso.com/projects/event-espresso-4/nl/event-espresso-nl_nl/export-translations/?format=po

MO:
https://translate.eventespresso.com/projects/event-espresso-4/nl/event-espresso-nl_nl/export-translations/?format=mo

However, without first confirming which files your loading originally and then working around that I’m just guessing as to where you would upload them.

NOOOOO! I did so much work on the translation to Dutch. Do you mean I have to do this all over again?

I’m not sure where I said anything like that?

Can you send me the PO file for your translations so I can take a look?

And second: I updated the server after I updated the event espresso plugin manually because it did not work automatically. And then downgraded it again. I tested multiple PHP versions (all available since 7.3) to see if it worked. It did not.

The error you posted, does not happen in PHP7.X, its from a change in PHP8.

So if you were running into errors prior to the above, it must have been a different error, but I can only work on the info you’ve given me.

Open up your .PO file, the string your looking for is:

This will parse to the total available spaces for an event. Calculating total spaces is approximate because it is dependent on the complexity of limits on your event. There are two methods of calculation (which can be indicated by the %1$smethod%2$s param on the shortcode). %1$scurrent%2$s which will do a more accurate calculation of total available spaces based on current sales, and %1$sfull%2$s which will be the maximum total available spaces that is on the event in optimal conditions. The shortcode will default to current.

In the translation, your looking for a missing s at the end of the place holders.

For example %1$volledig%2$s

The first place holder is missing an s, so should be %1$svolledig%2$s.

Oh, you found it? Awesome 🙂

May I ask which string it was?

skleijer

It was the translations. I needed to update the translations. But if you don’t know that from the beginning it’s a search. Thank u for everything!
Kind regards, Sya

I do not know what string it was. Sorry. I would say to everybody having this problem: update your mo file!

And if you would make it possible to add ‘event’ shortcode to the email templates in the recipient subject I would be really happy! Until now I had to add it manually and I think the recipient wants to see directly what he/she is applying for in the subject of the email. Like in: Thank you for applying to the congres/event of ….
Thanks in advance!
Kind regards,
Sya
