* WP version 3.9.1
* EE 3.1.36.5.P – no add-ons installed yet
* New installation

Hello,

I need ideas as to how I could solve or get around my situation below.

My business will provide soccer coaching for kids and I need to present a registration form where the adult (parent, caregiver, etc) will do the registration process for the children. Small children normally are not computer-savvy and do not have email addresses; however, an email address is required by EE3 as part of the (system-required) “Personal Information” question group for the attendee.

Also, I want the attendee’s name in the registration confirmation email to be that of the child, not the parent as, technically, it is the child that is attending.
As we know, the system’s required “Personal Information” question group requires these three fields pertaining to the attendee:

First Name
Last Name
Email

What I ended up doing was make “Personal Information” relevant to child and rename fields as below (I’m not even sure if renaming fields in the system’s required question group is a good idea):

Personal Information
Child First Name
Child Last Name
Adult Email

Adult Information (added custom group)
Adult First Name
Adult Last Name

My issues with the above workaround is that

(1) it’s the only way I can get the registration confirmation email to show the child’s name as the attendee

(2) I don’t like the fact that I had to rename fields in the system’s required question group

(3) I don’t like having the adult’s email field in the question group relevant to the child. It should logically go in the adult’s question group.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Miguel

Hi,

The primary attendee/registrant’s information is used for the email notification and the attendee list in the WordPress dashboard.

You could switch the parent/guardians information to be the primary attendee and then add this shortcode to the email notifications in the general settings screen:

[custom_questions]

The parent will then receive the email notification and the child’s name will be listed on that notification.

Hi Lorenzo,

Thanks for your feedback.

That was a good suggestion; however, I need to the attendee list to show the children’s names, not parents.

I ended up implementing everything as shown here ( http://www.soccerkidsnyc.com/event-registration/?ee=1 ) where every field was basically placed under the system-required “Personal Information” question group. (Child First Name, Child Last Name, and Adult Email are the three required fields in this group.)

However, this will not allow me to elegantly use the allow-group-registration feature as the adult user would have to enter his/her basic information repeatedly for each child. Also, I’d need to capture the personal information of each child that is part of the group; however, the system requires email and child does not have one.

Unless you could think of a different approach, I guess I can force the adult user to do a full registration process for each child (shouldn’t be more than a few.) But I would suggest a proxy registrant feature in EE for events involving children (or people without emails for that matter.)

Thanks,
Miguel

Hi Miguel,

Thanks for your feedback. It is something we have thought about and perhaps in the future we can implement a system to allow proxy registrants.

Right now though, I cannot see a better alternative than what you have outlined above.
