CSS isn’t the right tool for that job. What you could do instead is make a copy of the content-espresso_events-header.php template, and move that copy into your current WordPress theme. Then you’ll make an edit, adding some code to display the date, so the date and time appear on the same line as the name of the event, like in this example.
One last step is you can disable the date display that normally appears below the line that has the event name by going to Event Espresso > Templates > Event List Pages > Display Datetimes > No. This way the dates won’t appear twice.
