App works with iPhone iOS but not with Android iOS

We have tried scanning tickets with both the iPhone app and the Android app (using Coolpad Catalyst device running most recent Android iOS). It works perfectly, albeit slowly, on the iPhone but when we try to scan a ticket on the Anroid we get the error message “invalid ticket” and none of the registration fields are populated. It’s as if the android is not reading the QR code correctly or at all. We confirmed the ticket(s) we are scanning is valid.

We have tried logging in to the app as ourself (like we would in a browser and we see our list of events and can select an event) and we have tried logging in using an application password (presumably unsuccessfully since we get a new error message: “connection error, unable to load data”).

We’re running EE 4.9.8p and before you tell me, I’m backing up the site now before updating the plugin to 4.9.9.p

Suggestions?

Thanks,
M

BTW, we installed the Android app yesterday, so whatever version is in the google play store, is the version we are running.

Thanks.

Is the version you are running this one (a):

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eventespressohd.android

or this other one (b):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eventespressoHD.android

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eventespressohd.android which I believe is ee4 and it says version 2.1.

thanks.

Hi there,

Have you tried with another Android device at all? Do you mind if we try logging in to your site with one of our devices? Please send temporary WordPress admin level log in credentials via this form:

Hi M,

I spent some time troubleshooting this and noticed that when testing the REST API on your site using the details provided, WordFence locked me out which then caused the same symptoms you mention above on the app.

This is the response I was receiving – http://take.ms/JOUXJ

I setup WordFence on a test site that uses application passwords and could not reproduce the same issue.

Today I noticed you’ve now disabled the plugin and I can now log into the site on the Android app without any problems. I added a registration (under my name if you want to remove it) which is unpaid, then used the app to attempt to check-in that registration.

It failed to check me in, which is expected as the ticket is unpaid and I did not force check-in but it it means the login is now working.

It looks like this is due to an issue with WordFence, but so far I’ve been unable to reproduce it. Is the app working on your side with WordFence disabled?

Thank you for taking the time to look into this.

This is what has happened since you did your testing: I turned off all extraneous plugins except for two essential, non-EE plugins to try and resolve a (much larger) issue with the ticketing system. I arrived in the town where the devices are, started my own testing (after my client and his 16-year old son had tried and failed for days) and the devices were working perfectly for me. So while it may have been a plugin conflict it could’ve also been operator error but most likely a plugin conflict.

Do you have a list of known conflicting plugins, a list of potentially conflicting plugins, or anything like that?

Thank you again.

We list any known plugin/theme conflicts on this page:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/known-third-party-plugin-theme-conflicts/

I suspect this is some form of conflict with a setting within WordFence as the response above was from WordFence only when using authentication headers however so far I’ve not been able to reproduce.

If you reactivate all of your other plugins other than WordFence do the apps continue to work?
