I have followed the installation instructions copying the Espresso Services to my root folder and setting the permissions to the folder to 755. My site is not a multi site install.

When I log into the espresso Android app, it connects then hangs.
This is the output from the log file.

Hi,

I am assuming you have the latest Android app (v 2)?

When you say it hangs, is it doing anything such as fetching events? Does it load events and then become unresponsive? Does it do it on the first page or when you try to swap tabs? In other words what happens when it hangs?

Hi Dean,

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I have the latest Android application from the appstore.

The events never load. I do not get the options to make a selection due to the Modal loading window.

Steps to reproduce:

I add my endpoint and credentials. http://mydomain.com/ user / password.

Select login
I see account setup message

Loading – Fetching Events – It stays here loading.

The tab on the background is Today.

Is it possible to get your login details in order to look into this?

If so, please send them via https://eventespresso.com/send-login-details/

NOTE: login details need to be Admin level.

I just sent my login details.

Hi Warren,

Thanks for the login details. When you advised it is hosted on your internal server, do you mean you have your own server for it? If so this may be the reason for it, I will need to take some further advice and get back to you.

Hi Dean,

What I mean is I am not using a godaddy or 3rd party host. I am in control of the actual server, router and internet connections.

It makes it easier to have full control of the internet connections, web servers and database servers.

Hi Warren,

I tried logging in with the iOS app and it threw the “Sorry, can’t log in – Blog returned invalid data.” error. So I checked the site’s XML feed, yoursite/feed/ and it’s throwing errors there too.

You can check the errors by typing this into your browser’s address bar:

http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fyoursite.com

Please also see the notes here:

http://feedvalidator.org/docs/error/WPBlankLine.html

to help narrow down the issue.

Thank you Josh! I fixed the feed problem by installing and running the wordpress plugin fix-my-feed-rss-repair. I am still getting the same issue fetching the Events.

Using a plugin to fix the feed may only be treating the symptom of the broken feed, not the larger issue that’s causing the adding line getting added with PHP. You might need to rule out the WP theme and any other plugins that are installed by temporarily switching to the default WP theme and deactivating all the plugins except for Event Espresso.

Hi Josh,

It looks like the issue is related to my Avada theme. I changed the theme back to the default and the app works. FYI -I have the espresso application and my IPad and it works with no problem (Using the plugin an my theme).

How can I tell what is conflicting with Event Espresso ticketing and my theme?

Thank you for your help,
Warren

Hi Warren,

It turns out that I have a copy of the Avada theme that I could test and the older ticketing app api seems to work okay with Avada activated. There could be a difference with the version I have (it’s an older version) and it may have been modified at some point.

If your copy of Avada has been modified you could try installing a fresh, un-modified copy. If that doesn’t help, you can try turning on wp_debug in the wp-config.php file to see if it generates any errors. The theme check plugin can also help narrow down theme issues too:

John,

Thank you for the tips and helping me troubleshoot. I had an old version of the Avada theme as well and replaced my current theme and it worked.

It is really nice to know when I have an issue, you and your support team are ready to help.

Thank you again!!!!!!

Warren

I am having this issue too but not quite the same. My site is hosted through hostpapa. I log in on the app as the instructions detail and it hangs on the “Loading” Fetching Events screen.

Hi Evan,

Which version of the mobile app are you using, and which API is installed?

What is an API…

I just re-read this:

Please note that this app requires the Espresso Services API and is not compatible with the JSON API.

Where do i get the Espresso Services API?

Although this article at Wikipedia does not cite any sources, it has this to say in regards to what an API is:

Generally speaking, an application programming interface (API) specifies how some software components should interact with each other.

You can download the Espresso Services API from the ticketing documentation page:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/espresso-ticketing/

Ok, that did the trick, pretty awesome application. Just one question…how do you “unattend” someone?…Oh, nevermind, figured it out via the app. You simply do a search for the person, click on the person that is already confirmed and it will ask if you want to unconfirm. Likewise if you don’t have the ability to scan…for what ever reason…you can search for the attendee and click on them to “confirm” them as attending. Pretty slick and simple. The wordpress interface doesn’t seem to have this option though and it doesn’t like it when there is 2 or more attendees under the same name, seems to hang. Thanks guys.

Edit, you can “unconfirm” individuals that are already confirmed in a ticket that contains more than one person via the search but I can’t “confirm” them via the search and tap.

Thanks for the feedback.

I haven’t seen it where the iOS apps hang when there is more than one registration record with the same name while testing. I’ll check with someone on our staff to see if they can reproduce this on the Android app.

Hi Evan,

I can confirm this issue, though I do not believe it is related to the duplicate names, but I cannot currently explain why it is doing it.

I will get a developer ticket raised to look into this.
