I have a problem specifically with AMEX. I’ve tried with other cards and it seems to be fine.
Here’s a screenshot.
I’ve tried contacting Paypal and this is what they had to say:
“This is basically a warning message that doesn’t stop the transaction but is meant to inform you of an action we performed. The straight forward answer is that the Order Description was too long for us to store so we basically cut off what we could not store. It’s just to let you know we could not store the entire value you sent us.”
I’ve checked and the event name has only 71 characters. It also, again, hasn’t thrown an error with any other card.
Assuming that’s PayPal Pro that you are using (and if it’s PayFlow or another Payment method, please clarify), did they give you the documentation for what the actual character limit is for the description field?
As mentioned in PayPals response the above error should not stop the transaction from going through, it is to inform your they truncated the order description but continued with the transaction.
There’s actually multiple order descriptions sent to PayPal when using PayPal pro and it looks like we’ve missed limiting one of those values, all of the others are already set to 127 max. We’ll have that fixed in the next version of Event Espresso.
However, if you can’t find the above transaction in PayPal then there is something more going on, have you accepted the AMEX terms and conditions within your PayPal account? There is usually a different set of conditions you must accept to take Amex cards.
In the EE Transaction, what do you see for payments? Just a single payment with a gateway response showing the above error?
