Our usual support guy is on vacation and we just saw that none of our events are appearing on our calendar (http://surfballard.com/seattle-stand-up-paddle-rentals-and-sales/online-rental/). We need ALL of our events to appear on our calendar. We used to just have one type of event (SUP Rentals), but because we didn’t have any other categories, we never used an official Category for it. We added two other categories (SUP Lesson and Surf Camp), which are official Categories… but we have ALL of the categories appear on the calendar (we’re just using the [EVENT_CALENDAR] short code. We’re not sure why this suddenly stopped working.

It looks like our usual support guy tried to use categories (had the calendar use the category legend, etc.)… but as I’m not in charge of the website, I’m not sure when that started or if that’s part of the problem. I disabled the category legend and category picker, in the hopes that everything would show up again… but no events show. It is imperative that we get this fixed ASAP!

Hi Melissa,

We can look into this. Do you know if the usual support guy recently changed the site with new plugins or a different WordPress theme? It seems that the Kornio theme is causing some problems there.

Sadly, I don’t. 🙁 I do know that we’ve been using Kornio for the past several years (and it is an *awful* theme that was unfortunately recommended by a graphic designer). It is very possible that our support guy has updated plugins. He should be back next week and we can get him back involved… but right now we’re dead in the water as people can’t rent a board online and are calling the shop.

I can investigate further if you can resend the redeem a support token form and include the correct FTP information. The FTP information you sent isn’t correct.

Thank you. So it looks like the server is hitting a query limit when it tries to load the events, and then it just stops when it hits the limit. The number of queries can be reduce by changing a few of the calendar settings, and changing those actually helped. If you load the calendar page now you’ll see the events will eventually load up (still slow) but they’ll load up.

The changes I made were to set show_expired=false and set Display Attendee Limits to No and set Disable Categories? to No.

When your website support person comes back from vacation it’d be good to discuss with them about hosting somewhere other than Godaddy Managed Hosting. Some of the managed hosts (like Godaddy) will throttle the server which leads to lower limits and slower page load times. We have a list of recommended hosts here:

Great! Thanks so much! We were sadly locked into a 5-year agreement with GoDaddy that one of the owners purchased a long time ago… but it’s nearly expired and we’ll be changing as soon as we possibly can!
