I just updated from EE3 to EE4. I have several events that I believe meet the requirements to show up as “Active,” but the best I can do is get them to show up as an “Upcoming” event. This is what I understood are the requirements for an Active event:
The “Active” ticket status means that a ticket is currently available for sale. A ticket is active if:
The ticket “Goes On Sale” date has occurred
The ticket “Sell Until” date has not occurred.
Ticket quantities are available for sale.
The assigned event datetimes are not sold out.
I have made sure these requirements have been met, but no change in status. I also added new events but the same result.
Meaning today’s date and time is between one of the datetimes ‘Event Start’ and ‘Event End’ dates.
An ‘upcoming’ event is one that will be active in the future.
The ‘active’ and ‘upcoming’ event status isn’t really affected by the ticket sale start/end dates (Not strictly true but it is for the above situation).
The ‘datetime’ on an event is the ‘instance’ of the event, so think of each datetime as the event itself. Tickets grant ‘access’ to a/many datetime(s) so the datetime is how you control when the event is happening, the tickets control access to the datetimes.
Yes this does make sense! In EE3 I was seeing all my events that were currently on sale as “active,” so when I made the update to EE4 I was expecting the same. And hearing you explain how each status is considered lets me know that my events are doing what I’d like them to be doing in EE4.
Thanks for the thorough explanation, that gives me a good full understanding. All the best,
