I have just purchased the business license. Downloaded event-expresso-core-reg.zip and it installed OK. Attempt at activation caused a fatal error pop-up warning. WordPress is V3.5.1. Tried both WordPress upload and ftp upload. Later transferred 1221 files successfully. I cant see any explanation of the warning in WordPress

Hi Ross,

Do you have Event Espresso 3 running? If so, could you please deactivate it?

You can also check your site error_log to get information on that error. This is usually available in the WordPress root but may be available through a cpanel or hosting panel login.

Thanks for the prompt reply. There was no previous E-E plugin installed. The error log in cpanel is empty and the one on the root folder refers only to other plugins for that date. Did I download the correct zip file? From cpanel php is V.5.2.17 MySQL is V 5.0.96 and Apache is 2.2.23

Hi Ross, could you try enabling PHP 5.3 or PHP 5.4 and then try installing the plugin again through WordPress admin –> Plugins.

If this does not help, then please create and share a temporary SFTP & FTP login and a temporary WordPress admin login so we can take a look. You can share that information securely through the following link:

cpanel won’t allow me to select another PHP version. I went to the send-login-details but what is Support Topic URL. It looks a mandatory box.

The send-login-details page was submitted. There are 2 of us at this end and the page was submitted by me (Colin Lamb) with my email address. This was acknowledged by support@eventexpresso.com with a message that it would be looked into shortly. Should I wait an outcome from this before approaching our web host

Hi Ross,

Ideally you should speak to the host first about upgrading the PHP version. If that does not resolve the issue then please get back in touch and we can log in and examine the issue more closely. We are hopeful that the PHP version upgrade will fix it.

Before doing that, would there be a better chance with EE3? With add-ons it probably meets our requirements.

Hi Ross,

Lorenzo and Dean may have missed this, but the reason you’re seeing a Fatal error when you try to activate Event Espresso is because your version of WordPress is out of date. Event Espresso requires at the very least WordPress 3.8.1, and the current version of WordPress is highly recommended.

If you decide to go with Event Espresso 4 or Event Espresso 3, it’s important to keep your installation of WordPress up to date.
