Abandoned Registration Problem

Using EE 4.9.22.p with WordPress 4.6.1. We have the default event registration status set to Approved in order to avoid overselling events. We accept paypal and invoice registrations.

The problem we are seeing is that when a registration is abandoned there is no way to identify it without drilling down into each transaction individually. For example a recent registration with registration status = Approved and transaction status = Incomplete had the following registration step process:

Attendee Information : Completed
Payment Options : Initiated Thursday December 15, 2016 12:38 PM
Finalize Registration : Never Initiated

This particular user abandoned the registration process and then signed up successfully a few days later.

I read in another thread that unless registration is finalized, registration status should remain Pending Payment, but that’s not what we are seeing as in the above example. How can we sort out abandoned registrations without reviewing each transaction individually?

Hi there,

Using EE 4.9.22.p with WordPress 4.6.1

The latest version of EE is currently 4.9.25 and WP 4.7.

Can you update to the latest versions?

I read in another thread that unless registration is finalized, registration status should remain Pending Payment, but that’s not what we are seeing as in the above example.

That should be the case.

You can test this on your site but creating an event with a DRS (default registration status) of Approved and select some paid tickets to register onto.

Add your contact details, proceed through to the payment options and stop.

View the Event Espresso -> Registration list in another tab.

You’ll see your registration(s) as pending payment.

Now finalize the registration and it will update to Approved.

Did the user above attempt to pay but it failed somehow?

Which payment methods do you have active?

Thanks for the response Tony. I’ve updated and tested on the staging site and will try on the live site shortly. I do see the Pending Payment status before I finalize the registration, and then Approved once I finalize.

We have paypal and invoice payments active. I don’t know the details of the example registration above, but will try to find out. There were several like it and all were abandoned but of the Approved status.

What should I expect to see if the user clicked to finalize the registration, but the paypal payment failed for some reason?

The registration would be approved.

With a DRS of Approved you basically tell EE, it doesn’t matter what the payment status is, each registration applies to the events sold values. So if a user completes the registration and hits the thank you page, they become approved.
