I’m working on an event registration site for some rather large events we do a few times a year.  Event Espresso looks like it is ideal for my needs, but I want to make sure of a few things before buying.

1. I know that Event Espresso does not have a way to sell items, for instance Shirts and Meals, so I intend to use WooCommerce.  I don’t see any issues in the “known compatability” and I know that it won’t all be integrated 100% but I wanted to make sure they don’t stomp on each other.

2. When people register, we will need a spot on the registration to know if they will be competing or not, and what region of the state they are from, then I will need this data easily accessed (I know it puts out the spreadsheet reports, which takes care of most of it.  But I need the “Team Captain” from each region of the state to be able to see who has registered under their region.

3. I assume we will need the WP Users stuff for this, but I want to make sure that users can go and log back in and make changes to their registration, IE if they decided not to compete or change their region because they selected the wrong one the first time around, etc… (The only “deal breaker”)

I’m sure I had something else I needed to ask, but I think I’ve gotten the rest answered via reading the forums and the test drive stuff.

Thanks!

Hi Travis,

1. There aren’t any known issues with running WooCommerce alongside Event Espresso. If you aren’t currently using WooCommerce and want a solution that work with Event Espresso, we have an add-on called the Price Modifier. It is currently in Beta, but seems to be working fine for some customers. It allows you to add questions to your registration form that allows the customer to select items they would like to purchase, like t-shirts and meals. When the customer selects the item, it increases the price of the registration by the set amount. I’ve been using it on a personal project of mine here: http://gulfcoastayc.com/event-registration/?ee=1. It seems to be working fine for my client’s needs.

2. This is possible by using a short code for custom questions that you have created to gather the information that you want the Team Captain to see. You’ll paste the short code on a page that the Team Captain can access to view the information. This method does take a little php knowledge, but is fairly simple to set up, and we will be happy to help in the forums.

3. When the customer registers, they will receive a confirmation email. Within that email, there is a link they can click to edit their registration details.

Ok some followup:

1. When it goes to process through Paypal, will it show detailed what they ordered or will it just be the total?  Our current system only shows the total and that was an issue recently.

2. PHP knowledge isn’t a problem for me.  This wasn’t a big issue, and now sounds like a non-issue.

3. So if we are using WP User Integration do the users still need to click the link in the email?  Not as much of a deal breaker but I’d sure like it to be as easy as possible for our returning folks.  If not then I may not need to purchase the business one unless that’s needed for #1 or #2.

Sure sounds like this will cover all my bases, as long as these followup questions have great answers then it’s time to get the money out.

1. It will show a description like, “General Admission for (Event Name Here), Attendee: (Attendee’s Name Here)”, then it will list the item price. However, it will not list all items, such as t-shirts and meals purchased. This is something that still needs to be added to the Price Modifier.

2. Great! You’ll do fine then.

3. Using the WP User Integration add-on you can display a list of events that the logged in user has registered for. There isn’t currently a way to modify registration from that page though. The link in the email will take the person back to a page to edit registration details whether they are logged in or not.

Hope this helps answer your questions. Let us know if you have more.
