Hi Guys,

We are about to migrate from EE 3.1 to EE 4.4. We are doing this on an another server with a fresh install. Pages is the only content we’ve exported from the old site. Everything else is added new. The theme (Gameplan-Cactusthemes) is used on both old and new site. When publishing events in EE 3.1 the event description shows correct in the calender tooltip with correct formatting and style. When publish the same content with same formating and style in EE 4.4, no formating/style shows in the calender tooltip what os ever. The tooltip just render the description as plain text in a continues flow. Everything is ignored. What’s the difference in the Event calender add-on from the old to new version? How can we get the formatting to show in the tooltip?

WP-version: 3.9.2
EE-version: 4.4.0
EE-Calendar version: 3.1.0.
New site is not live yet.

Thanks!

Hi Henrik,

Do you have some sample screenshots of this issue? I do know that shortcodes are not run through the calendar but this isn’t something that we have recently seen.

I’ve run some testing and html tags like strong and emphasis do work:

You can upload the screenshots for to a free service like Getcloudapp.com or tinygrab.com and then link to them here.

Thanks.

Hi Lorenzo,

You just said the magic word: Shortcodes. We use the shortcode from the custom ee upcoming event widget to list event dates on the event page (not on the tooltip). We also use a column shortcode to position the list to the right. Now we have to figure out how we could list event dates without the possibility to use the widget shortcode. Do you by any chance have any suggestions to that problem?

It works using shortcodes in the old version so you can see how it looks on the current site. http://trappanbio.se/visning/?ee=269
You’ll find the event list to the right.

Many Thanks
Henrik

Hi,

I’ve sent a question to the development team about this as there is an open feature request. I’ll update this support post once I have more information. This usually takes a day or two for review.

Hi Henrik,

Regarding this:

We use the shortcode from the custom ee upcoming event widget to list event dates on the event page (not on the tooltip). We also use a column shortcode to position the list to the right. Now we have to figure out how we could list event dates without the possibility to use the widget shortcode. Do you by any chance have any suggestions to that problem?

This seems like a tedious way to add a list of dates. Instead of adding a shortcode to each event description, you could use a template tag and add it to the single event template.

There is even a setting in the EE4 Template settings where you can enable/disable displaying the dates for an event.

If you prefer to make columns using shortcodes, there are a few plugins that work well for this:

WP Canvas – Shortcodes

Grid Columns

I’ve tested a few of the WP Canvas – Shortcodes in the EE4 calendar tooltip and they parse as expected. What you may be seeing with the new site is the theme’s shortcodes are parsed too late, so they show up as text in the new calendar. Using the shortcode plugin will be a way to work around the issue.

Hi Josh,

Yes it is a tedious way to add list of dates. The alternatives that you gave me seems much better and I will explore both alternatives.

Many thanks, I really appreciate your quick help.

Henrik
