Extra Countries can't be removed

I am having a hell of a time with this part of EE4 and it is causing trouble for my client.

Under General Settings – Countries, I have only selected the US, yet on the public side both Canada and the US are displayed with Canada displaying first. We do not want Canada or any other country to be visible or available for a choice.

Further, when I try to delete states/provinces from the list (like the Virgin Islands, Samoa, or anything outside of the contiguous US (except HI) by clicking on the trash can to the right of the listing, it goes through the motions as if it were deleting it but nothing is deleted.

The client is getting pissed off because his association members are getting confused by the Canadian choices. What is obvious to you and me is not necessarily so to others so the whole point is to make it as simple as possible for the end user, not introduce more confusion for them.

How in the heck do I get this issue resolved so only US and it’s 50 states are visible, that’s all the client wants, not Canada or any additional locations.

Hmmm, apparently you can’t edit the original posts here in this forum so adding to the above post…

WP version 4.0.1
EE Version 4.4.5p

Hi Scott, its sounds like you are on the correct screen for Event Espresso within your WordPress dashboard but are you saving after making those changes?

Seriously? You have to his save? Of course I am. Why would selecting the US cause Canada to display? Further, why isn’t the delete function when clicking on the Trashcan to the right of the states listings not working? All it does is produce an error message. You can see my settings by going to http://chipseal.org/2015/EE4.4.5p.jpg.

There is something very wrong with this EE.

Could you try clearing your cache via your caching plugin?

After looking at the wiki you sent, apparently you have to manually select all of the countries that are normally listed and individually turn each one off from the list. Why would you pre-select any countries for the installation to begin with? I know I certainly didn’t select Canada or all of the other locations that were showing. The onscreen documentation leaves much to be desired.

So while one problem is solved the issue with the trash can is still unresolved.

Cache is cleared every single time I make any changes on the back end.

How were these two United States options added?

I received an email earlier today that appeared to have been generated from the component that NV-Nevada, US & USA were automatically added. I didn’t really think much of it as it didn’t make much sense. It was an hour or so after that when I was notified by the client that people trying to register all of a sudden only had Canada to choose from, the US was gone, and that’s when I started the thread. The US has been visible since the day I purchased and installed the plugin. This all just occurred today.

Hi,

I know you have removed Canada already but for completeness I have outlined the steps below.

To remove Canada:

Go to General Settings > Countries tab
Select Canada from the select country dropdown list.
Change the “Country Appears in Dropdown Select Lists” to No
Click Save Country Details button.

To remove a state/region

Go to General Settings > Countries tab
In the state/provinces list either select No from the “State Appears in
Dropdown Select Lists” or press the trash can icon.
Click Save State/Provinces button at the bottom

Currently it does look like the states won’t delete when you press the trash can icon (the error is related to that), but they do delete once you press trashcan icon and then press the Save State/Provinces button. I’ll get a ticket made up to look into that, so thank you for pointing out that issue!

Regarding the loss of the US, can you double check that the “Country Appears in Dropdown Select Lists” setting when the US is selected in the Countries tab please?

Also, can you provide us with a copy of the email stating the auto addition of the states?

Thanks Dean,
I misstated when I said the notifications were via email, they were actually three separate system notifications that were at the top of the EE admin, just like the error message in the image link above.

I tried your trashcan then save suggestion on the states and that did work. It would have been nice if that info was included in the “How To” options in the Help drown down or other documentation along with the fact that you have to select the country and unpublish it individually. The way the documentation reads it makes it seem as if all you do is just select the one you want published and hit save.

Much appreciated for all of your assistance.
