EE3 or EE4 Based on these requirements

Hi,

I’m not sure which version to get to satisfy my clients requirements. They are as follows:

1) Attendees have to pay when they register – if they register and want to pay with a check, then an nivoice would be emailed to them with instructions.
2) Ability for users to register for different events, Manage their own registrations, Update personal information

They are coming from ‘Advanced Events Registration Pro’ version 2.20 so they would ultimately like to maintain as many of those features as possible, plus the stuff above. We just aren’t sure which platform makes the most sense considering what they are used to, and there additional needs as aligned above. They host a multiple-day conference that has different types of attendees, who have differing quantities of attendees (groups of 3 to 5 people, whether they are a company rep, or a vendor rep) and they also have “break-out” sessions that they would like to incorporate into this during the conference that people sign-up to.

Any guidance based on the info above would be wonderful.

Thanks!

Either EE3 or EE4 would work alright, but I would recommend EE4.

People can pay directly or download an invoice for payment.

How do you want to manage the “break-out” sessions? Right now each break-out session would need to be a separate datetime or ticket (ticket assigned to a datetime).

Does that help?

You can sign up to demo both versions: https://eventespresso.com/demo/ or download the free versions from wordpress.org: https://wordpress.org/plugins/event-espresso-decaf/ or https://wordpress.org/plugins/event-espresso-free/

It does help somewhat. Here is a clarification: Ideally, the breakouts would be signed up for during event registration. For example, let’s say I’m attending the conference, and in the middle of the conference is 4 breakout sessions that I can only go to two off. We’d like people to be able to choose the breakout sessions they want to go to during their registration to attend the conference. We’d like to be able to have people log back in and change their breakout session choices if they wanted to. The big thing is that the conference committee doesn’t want to have to make these changes for people all the time, they want it as self-serve as possible.

Thanks for the quick response!

You could configure how many tickets people can buy during one registration (e.g. 5 tickets, with any combination among the choices but you cannot restrict one ticket per session per-se).

You cannot change your ticket selection after the initial registration because in the case where payment is due or overpayment. They can edit their registration answers, but not the ticket selection.

How can someone edit their registration answers after the fact with EE4? Is this functionality only available in EE3 as I’m not seeing anyway for someone to really create an account in EE4, or maybe I’m missing it. Thanks for all the help.

Also, in EE3, if I set the event to “Members Only” and allow group registration, will all of the people in the group get their own Member profile? So if I’m registering 4 of my coworkers, will the other 4 people get a notification email saying they were registered for the event and then also have a profile created so that they could later log back in and adjust their personal information, even though they aren’t the ones who initially registered themselves (because of the group registration)?

Thanks again, trying to figure this all out.

Hi Steve,

In EE4, as in EE3, attendees don’t make an account on the site by default. There is an email tag called [RECIPIENT_EDIT_REGISTRATION_LINK] that can be added to the Main Content of the messages. When clicked the user will be able to edit there registration details etc.

Regarding the EE3 member only question. If you set it as member only, the person needs to be logged into your site in order to be able to to register. The plugin by default does not create user accounts.

We do have a code snippet for EE3 (https://gist.github.com/Apina/9596012) that will allow registrations to be made into user accounts based on email. They will receive an email which allows the to edit their details.
