Admin/Customer Receiving Multiple Registration Messages

I’m getting a report from my client that they (and their customers) have all of the sudden started receiving multiple copies of their event registration emails. It’s been going on for the past two days.

When someone registers for an event on the site, the customer and admin will each receive 2 copies of the email.

Has anyone seen this before with their install?

Hi there,

Do they receive the second email instantly or is it delayed at all? Say roughly an hour between them?

Which payment method are you using?

Hi Tony, thanks for your help. I’m told that the second email comes in delayed. They are using PayPal Standard payments.

Funny thing is they don’t receive a second message from PayPal, just WordPress. Maybe there’s some communications issue between the payment system and the site?

I can reproduce this on one of my test sites.

It looks like one of the cron jobs we setup to confirm that a user has returned from an offsite payment gateway (and updates the transaction/registration status at that point) is triggering the registration approved message when it runs.

That shouldn’t be happening so I’ve created a ticket for our developers to investigate.

We’re having the same issue! Same situation/configuration. What’s the status on this?

Thank you!

Well, at least we know it’s a bug in the software. Hopefully it won’t be a difficult fix. Thanks to Tony for looking into this!

We’ve bumped the priority on this ticket. Hopefully we can get it squared away soon.

Hello, we are working on a solution. Here is a workaround which will prevent those multiple notifications:

1) Please deactivate your version of Event Espresso 4 through your WordPress plugins screen in your WP dashboard

2) Click on the following link which will download a prior version of Event Espresso 4 to your computer:

https://github.com/eventespresso/event-espresso-core/archive/4.8.9.p-sans-tests-tag.zip

3) Return to your WP Plugins screen and then upload and activate the version that you just downloaded

We’ll update your support post as soon as we have verified a fix and then you’ll be able to update to the current release.

Thanks

Lorenzo
