We moved our web hosting from one place to another. After we did that, I noticed the message “Attention: A valid SSL Certificate is required on your website in order to process payments using this gateway!” under the Authorize.net AIM Settings.
Test transactions seem to go through ok but I’m not sure if this message requires some sort of action on my part and if so, what?
An SSL certificate basically encrypts all the connection bewteen your website and your payment gateway provider’s website, to help protect your customers credit card and private data. If you are processing credit cards on your site, then it is HIGHLY recommended that you have an SSL certificate installed on your web server. Do you know if you had an SSL certificate on your website prior to moving it the new hosting provider?
I am not sure about a certificate on the former hosting side – I don’t recall doing anything over there.
What I do know is that the Payment Gateways page didn’t have this message when I had my stuff over on HostMonster, since moving to A2 Hosting, I am seeing the message.
Is this something as simple as uploading a file to the hosting site?
You may want to use the Authorize.net SIM method instead. This method takes the customer off to the Authorize.net secure processing form for payment.
