I’ve taken over looking after Event Espresso on a site where the support licence has expired. Can I just purchase a new licence (Business licence for EE3) and add the support key to the site? I want to be clear on the steps before I spend $200 and this doesn’t seem to be covered in the FAQ or here.
That should be fine as it will be a different account and different licence key, just swap the old key to the new key. If any issues do arise (which they shouldn’t), just get in touch and we can get them resolved.
The only thing you may want to be careful with is the update. As I am not sure what version of Event Espresso the site is currently using, if the version is very old, updating may cause you to lose access to older events/currently running events.
If you can provide the version of EE you’re currently using I can advise in more depth.
As always, please back up your site before updating as a precaution.
Note that it is a good idea to make sure there are no active events running at the time you update, as the events may become unusable due to the various changes in the past 2+ years.
I would recommend exporting all event and attendee data prior to upgrade so that you have an historic copy.
That version also does not have auto updates, so you will need to manually update.
Once on the latest version, updates will arrive as per any WP plugin, so long as the licence key is valid.
