When I set up event espresso for our business website I used our API details to link up event espresso with our paypal account but each time someone would try to register for one of our events it would come up with an error code. I contacted PayPal and they responded with the below…
“Thank you for contacting PayPal Merchant Technical Support. I understand you are receiving error 10501 when trying to submit payment requests to PayPal. This error indicates that your shopping cart is using the Website Payments Pro API. Unfortunately, Website Payments Pro DoDirectPayment API is not currently available in Australia. Please check with Event Espresso to see what PayPal products they support”
Please help! Any ideas on what I can do? I need our customers to be able to use their credit cards directly on our website to buy event tickets as apposed to having to set up paypal accounts and pay via the paypal site.

Hi Katie,
It does indeed seem that PayPal Pro is not available to Australian users (https://developer.paypal.com/docs/classic/howto_product_matrix/).
As such I would consider an alternative payment processor such as Stripe (Beta invite currently) or eWay.
Alternatively you could use the standard PayPal and make sure the option to use credit cards is turned on in your account (therefore no PayPal account needed). This will still process payments at the PayPal site rather than on your site.
