"Payment Declined" until web browser cookies are cleared

Hello,

We use the most recent versions of EE4 and Vanco Gateway plugin. Lately we have had a number of people paying by card and getting “Payment Declined”, even though they can purchase elsewhere online without issue.

As a test, I purchased tickets and I also got a Payment Declined error. The balance on the card was zero and credit limit was in the thousands. Okay so I gave a ring to the payment processor (Vanco) and confirmed they weren’t the culprit. So then I called the bank, and they said their system was declining the transaction because of an invalid expiration date. What? I retried the transaction while reading aloud my card’s expiry — both were exactly the same but the Vanco plugin still showed a Payment Declined error.

Now, here’s where it gets crazy. The bank’s support rep suggested that I clear my cookies before trying the transaction again. Confounded, I clicked the “Retry Payment” link, entered the same card information as before, and the payment went through. Which makes no sense, because I’ve made thousands of online purchases for years with the same web browser and not once gotten declined or had to clear the cookies.

It seems there is an issue with the Vanco Gateway plugin, as others are also reporting the same exact problem purchasing tickets with credit cards they can use elsewhere online. This forces us to contact those with pending payments to let them know to please clear their browser’s cookies prior to retrying their card payment, and (of course) some have no clue how to do this.
