Hi,

I’m a developer considering advising a client to purchase EE and the Mailchimp add-on for a registration site they are looking to build and I have a few queries. The key difference from the requirements and EE out of the box seems to be that events need to be locked down to pre-specified attendees, and as a result there is an additional status for an attendee, prior to registration, of simply being eligible to register. Is there anything in place to handle this type of functionality or would this require custom development (and would it be achievable to extend this within EE?)?

To expand on the above, ideally a csv could be imported which generates the attendee/user accounts in WordPress and generates an email, with password or authentication key in a register link, which is sent to the attendee to prompt registration? I’ve done something similar in WordPress before with standard user accounts, but I’m not sure how compatible this would be with EE.

In relation to Mailchimp, the client wants to be able to differentiate between registered and non-registered event attendees, so that reminders can be sent to those not registered (essentially filterable different automated emails to either reg/non-reg delegates). It looks like the Mailchimp plugin simply adds a delegate to a specified list at the point of registration, so I’m assuming I’d need to develop any additional functionality regarding handling of reg/non-reg attendees as a custom feature.

Hope that all makes sense. Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Hi,

This sort of system could be possible in EE3 using the WP User Integration. This addon basically means that you can set it so only registered and logged in users can register for a particular event or all of them. The only thing it wont allow is granular control, eg setting it so that only certain users or a certain role type can apply to a specific event. You would likely need to custom develop something like that.

EE4 doesn’t have a formal system like this yet, but I believe something is on the cards for version 4.5 (no due date yet).

Regarding Mailchimp, again it doesn’t discriminate against logged in or logged out users or role type.
