Hi Lori,
Unfortunately you’re right, neither of those issues really involve EE.
To help you out a bit though, the Twitter icon is already on your home page, at the bottom.
If you want it in the sidebar, then I would perhaps look at swapping the Twitter plugin for one that has a widget (read up on widgets here: http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Widgets ) as the current plugin simply adds the button to the top or bottom of a post or page.
Regarding the groupon links, you could just add the links by editing the page which is being used for the home page.
