Hi Everybody, Question: we are a Dutch training institute and we have created a page that shows our different training sessions/curriculum, see: http://www.eventsacademy.nl/opleidingen-en-trainingen (in Dutch). The problem is: the hyperlinks (via text/photo) correspond with specific event dates, not to the training itself. This means that when the date changes and/or are is the past, the hyperlink doesn’t work anymore. So we have to keep up with the dates and change them manualy, all the time. Which is very time consuming and can/will create errors. Furthermore, “old” hyperlinks in promotional communications don’t work anymore as well, etc. Do you know how we can change this? So, how we can use/create hyperlinks that correspond with the specific training session and not with the specific training date? Many thanks! Best, Liza |

Hi, Perhaps you would be best to use the [EVENT_LIST] shortcode and categories. What you can do is set up X number of pages, each with an EVENT_LIST shortcode targeting a category. Then you can create the event and allocate each one a category and they will appear on that specific page. This means the main links don’t need to be constantly updated and the category events will appear and disappear as they become active and stop being active Example [EVENT_LIST category_identifier=”123abc”] Example where events never disappear [EVENT_LIST category_identifier=”123abc” show_expired=”true”] |

Hi Dean, Thank you very much for your quick response! I will send your answer to our (new) web developer. Have a great day! Best, Liza |

Hi Dean, I’m sorry, our webdeveloper doesn’t understand what you are saying (yet). That’s probably because he doesn’t know Event Espresso yet. Can you please explain him/us a little bit further about what to do, from scratch? Many thanks again! 🙂 Best, Liza |

Sure, Let’s take just 2 sections from your website: Event Management Basic and Event Management Advanced What I would do is create 2 new pages, called Event Management Basic and Event Management Advanced for simplicity. I would then create two Event Categories called Event Management Basic and Event Management Advanced or whatever you prefer. Then any event that would go under Event Management Basic would get assigned that category. On the pages I created I would add the following shortcode [EVENT_LIST category_identifier=”XXX”] XXX is the category identifier for that specific event. See here http://take.ms/1JnWs SO each page will have a slightly different shortcode due t having different categories. Then the Main page will link to these new pages. This will mean you clients may have to click one extra time, BUT it will mean that the events will auto update and you can show multiple events in one category. If you are wanting to just show a single event directly (like you are now) then I cant think of any way to dynamically change the event. |
