from what I’ve read, and researched, both EE3 & EE4 are not capable of offering 5 event tickets with a group discount while also offering one person in the group to get an extra item like a t-shirt or lunch.
I have an event currently setup selling event tickets and am using the price modifier addon to add items like lunch, ice, or a show to the ticket price. however, we also want to offer $10 off the ticket price of each individual in a group of 5 or more. I was unable to see a way to do this and as I understand it, there is a conflict in EE3 between the price modifier used for extra items like t-shirts & lunch with the addon for group discounts. is there some solution which exists which I’m missing?

No, the only add-on that currently have been rewritten to work with EE4 is the calendar add-on. In EE3, the Price Modifier add-on will not work with the Multiple Events Registration add-on, and the Volume Discounts add-on will not work without the Multiple Events Registration add-on. It was this kind of situation that led to the rewriting of EE that became EE4. I’m sure the EE4 PM and VD add-ons will work great together, once they have been written.
You might consider using a discount code. You could look in the admin at the transactions the code had been applied to, to check if it had been applied on a group of 5 or more. If you wanted to add some code to check each registration as it’s applied, you could pay a developer to write that for you.
