The front end scanner shortcode [ESPRESSO_BARCODE_SCANNER] is not really usable where you want attendees to do self-service scanning primarily because the selection interface remains. Not only is it distracting/intrusive for attendees, those on touch screen kiosks could change the selection and cause all sorts of issues.
I guess in the short term I can hide it via JS & CSS but that will open the next challenge of how to select the event and datetime in the first place.
I think the shortcode could be extended slightly and become much more useful with some additional parameters:
– parameter for event id
– parameter for datetime id
– parameter for mode of function
– parameter to choose to hide the selection interface
With these elements in place we would be able to make a series of pages – each with a shortcode configured for a particular datetime. Then on the big day you would merely need to ensure each kiosk was pointing to the right page.
Great suggestions. I’ll pass these along to the developers.
Thanks!
