Formatting issues when using shortcodes to display events on new page

I have groups of classes called basic, advanced, curve, etc. So when I use the standard auto generated Event List page, the classes appear to show in calendar / chronological order. That list looks great but it’s in the wrong order for what I need.

I need them to be in calendar order but by class type. For example, all of the basic class need to be grouped together by date order, then advanced in one group, etc.

I thought the shortcodes I found would be the answer but the formatting is horrendous.

Here is the test page I made:

and these are the shortcodes I’m using:

[EVENT_LIST category_identifier=basic]

[EVENT_ESPRESSO_CATEGORY event_category_id=”advanced”]

Am I missing something totally obvious in regards to the formatting? I figured these shortcodes would do exactly what I needed. I’d just make a page and configure the event lists as needed.

Plus I didn’t know what the difference between EVENT_LIST and EVENT_ESPRESSO_CATEGORY are.

Thank you,
C

Hi,

First things first, edit the page and go to the TEXT tab and remove the < pre > < /pre > tags (I have to type them with spaces as otherwise you wouldn’t see them).

Those are likely from copying the shortcode from the documentation and those are causing the weird boxing effect you are seeing.

EVENT_ESPRESSO_CATEGORY is focused on showing categories and EVENT_LIST has more options, other than that the output it is the same.

Personally I would use the EVENT_LIST shortcode, no other reason that it is more flexible, so if you decide to change things, it might be a little quicker and easier.

That was it – the tags. Mystery solved. Thank you!
