Is there any documentation on how to format the look of the standard Event List in EE4? I see that a EE3 addons is available giving options of a table listing, category listing, table calendar- is there any suggestions for alternative looks for EE4? I have installed the widget event list in the body – but cannot get it to list horizontally. I found that there is a shortcode for eventlist – but this does not work in a page alone?

I would appreciate any help to enable the layout to look a bit more organised.

Thanks heaps.

Hi Lisa,

At this time EE4 does not have any pre-made templates like in EE3.

In EE4 events are custom post types, so can be manipulated using standard theme templating.

Dear Dean,

I am getting a bit frustrated with trying to just get a basic course listing onto the website. I am not really a developer and find the options for showing event details on the website very restrictive. Would it just be easier to revert to EE3? All I want is a list of event names linked to the individual single event page. I have managed to create a plugin file for custom php – but then I am stuck.

There must be an easier way to show details. Even if I use the widget – it only shows vertically and if I have a lot of events this is not practical.

Thank you for your advice.

Because the events are custom post type WordPress looks for the template file archive-espresso_events.php in the theme’s template folder first. If it cannot find it, WordPress will fall back on the archive.php template file in the theme’s template folder, and EE falls back on the hooks into the WP content filter that we have placed. I think you will be better off using the EE4 child theme and changing it’s parent to your current theme. That way you can completely control the layout of the event list.
