Event listing sort

How can I change the sort order on the event listing page? I want to just use the event listing, not a short code on another page, so that “return to event list” goes back to this main page — all of our events will be listed but since they are classes associated with camps, they all start on the same day and I need to have them in a certain order. (we have 3 main camps, then a bunch of classes to add on). I tried making one an earlier start date and that did not work to change order. I am using EE5
