As advised we installed Mandrill and have been using it for the past month without any Error 503 issues. It had resolved all issues. However in the past week the issues have appeared again. We typically get an Error 503 Service Unavailable issue when either i edit an event and try to save it, or when i send out an event email to attendees. This was also happening before we started using Mandrill.
My hosting company (Dreampress) advised that it seems to be a compatibility issue between EE and Varnish…
As far as we are aware there are no compatibility issues between that caching method and EE.
Has the EE related pages (the core pages) been added to the no cache whitelist? This would help with the front end, but there should be no reason why admin pages are being affected (the admin should not be being cached at all!).
