Hi,

I’m using EE4. Emails being sent upon registration (payment confirmation, etc.) looks just fine when viewed from a Webmail like gmail.com. They look like the preview in the Event Espresso admin. However if viewed from Outlook the layout is completely messy and doesn’t look professional at all.

Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks.

Hi,

Completely messy in what way? E..g is the formatting just broken or is there viewable code? What version of Outlook? Can you provide a screenshot?

Hi,

It doesn’t look as it should be in the HTML format. Table are squeezed, there’s no padding, footer with social media and contact info does not show up … It is just the formatting that is broken. The Outlook I’m using is Outlook 2007. Please see the screenshot from Outlook:

Thanks for the info.

Basically, Outlook dislikes HTML emails as a whole and its rendering of them is poorly supported (it uses Microsoft Word to render emails, which explains a lot!).

In order to have backwards compatibility with Outlook (2007/2010/2013) you would need to modify the HTML templates and make them incredibly simple – limited/no padding, no background images, no floats, etc.

Despite the email community’s efforts to fix Outlook, support (or lack thereof) for HTML and CSS in these versions of Outlook have remained virtually unchanged since Outlook 2007 was first released:

No support for background images in divs and table cells
No support for CSS float or position
No support for text shadow
Poor support for padding and margin
Poor support for CSS width and height
Problems with nested elements background colors
