I am currently using –
Wordpress Version: 3.8.1;
Event Espresso Version: 4.1.1.reg;

I am currently using this to render the shortcode:
<?php echo do_shortcode(‘[ESPRESSO_VENUE id=”‘.$post->ID.'”]’); ?>
However it just spits out the shortcode tag:
[ESPRESSO_VENUE id=”176″]
I’ve raised a developer ticket to have them look into this. In the meantime, if you are looking for a page with a single venue displayed on it, in the venue editor it will give you the url for a single venue page.
Becuase the venues are Custom Post Types, you can link to them easily like any other post, so in your Event Description you can type the venue name, highlight it and make it into a link.
The URL for the Venue can be found by editing the venue and looking under its name http://take.ms/tHUCX
