It is very important to my client that any sold-out event:

• Display “Sold Out” on the calendar…
• … and not allow further registration for that event

Is this possible??

(Apologies for asking what is almost certainly something that has been asked before; in fact this very question was asked in another support thread but I cannot view the support staff’s reply: https://eventespresso.com/topic/displaying-sold-out-on-custom-table-layout/)

Looking forward to a definitive Yes or No answer – Thanks!

Hello Christina,

In answer to your question, no the calendar doesnt display that information. The user would need to click the event, and on the event the registration form is hidden and a message advising that the maximum number of attendees has been met and no more registrations can be taken.

The resolution of the thread you pointed out was slightly different in that they were using a table rather than the calendar. In the table it displayed a register message even when sold out, a quick code change resolved that for the user.

Thank you for your response Dean – Is it possible to commission (ie, pay for) a custom solution from the Event Espresso development team? This feature (display “Sold Out” out on calendar + prevent further booking for that event) seems it would also be a desirable add-on feature for others besides my client.

Background / reason client needs this particular capability: My client runs a tour company and has multiple events per week, sometimes even multiple per day. Having “Sold Out” display on the calendar would make it apparent to site visitors which events are at capacity before having to drill down to that individual entry to discover it is sold out. The client’s current [Drupal] site has this shortcoming (it won’t display Sold Out, just “0 seats available” & so we had to settle w/ tweaking to hide sold out events from calendar so they can’t be overbooked) and as a result, they must field several unwanted phone calls per day from customers wondering if a tour is sold out or canceled since it is no longer appearing on the calendar. This is a synopsis of the problem experienced daily by my client over the past 2+ years since we built the Drupal site; as you can imagine, they are eager to find what seems should be a rather straightfoward solution on a new platform, and are this close to running w/ Event Espresso. Any help in achieving this would be infinitely appreciated (and duly compensated, of course).

It would be very easy to modify the sql query for the calendar so that it does not display events that have been sold out.

Thank you for the reply Sidney – in this client’s case, we definitely do NOT want sold out events disappearing from the calendar (that is how their current Drupal-based solution works, and it is the reason for multiple daily unwanted telephone inquiries about why a an event is not on the calendar for a certain date; something they want to stop).

The ideal solution would be for a sold out event entry to display “Sold Out” out on the calendar view, but after mulling over the default functionality of Event Espresso and explaining it to the client, it seems very satisfactory – I believe we will DEFINITELY be purchasing Event Espresso for this project. 🙂

That said, I’d still be interested in commissioning a custom solution for displaying “Sold Out” in the calendar view.

Hi Christina,

You can request a customization review here – https://eventespresso.com/contact/customization-request-form/

I know that our timescales for doing custom work are fairly long at the moment due to having all hands on deck working on Event Espresso 4.0, but if you fill the form out our sales/development team can give you a more specific cost/timescale.
