Hi,

This question is a continuation of this post https://eventespresso.com/topic/table-view/

If I wanted to do custom css to make my event espresso look like the links provided in the aforementioned post, would I have to create a child theme?

Hi Matt/Cindra,

As I mentioned in the previous post, the links you provided seem to have merely done some minor tweaks.

A child theme would not really be needed here, unless you are trying to modify the look of the website in general.

Forgetting how the rest of the site looks, let’s focus solely on the EE related parts.

https://creativespiritsco.com/art-event-registration/

They have gone to the Template Settings in EE3 and set the ThemeRoller Style to Humanity.

Now depending on the theme, the things like the register button and event title will appear slightly different.

For example in twentytwelve theme: http://take.ms/CNdFi
And now in twentyfifteen: http://take.ms/Y0R58

Of course, some additional CSS can easily make the text white etc in twentytwelve or your theme, but I think the website in question simply used the Humanity themeroller style with no changes.

This website has used a combination of modifying the template files (PHP) to change the structure of how the events are displayed along with some custom CSS to change colours etc. They have also enabled the featured images via the Template Settings.

Here is some basic info on customizing templates in EE3 https://eventespresso.com/wiki/put-custom-templates/ – you will need either some reasonable PHP/HTML knowledge, or a developer’s assistance.

Your website

If you want to change things up then there’s a few options:

  • Try a different ThemeRoller style
  • Try disabling ThemeRoller (this will make things look barebones but is good if you want to then use custom CSS)
  • Choose a Themeroller style and then add CSS to tweak it to your liking
  • Create a custom Themeroller style – https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-create-custom-themeroller-styles/
  • Modify the template files (advanced) and use custom CSS

LEt me know if you have any questions.
