The last couple of days I’ve been trying to get my head around event posts.

What I am trying to do is create a number of Event Posts (containing details of parts of the programme that will attract clients to attend) and then link those with one or more Event Post categories.

The idea being that I could then create one page that would list all of these elements of my programme of attractions under the Event Post Category name.

The shortcodes just produced a page saying ‘no matching events’. Thinking that my current copy of Custom Files I updated to the latest version (hoping that this would give me access to more information about Event Posting. It look now that Custom Files are not the answer?

Anyway, back to Event Posts. I think I have followed the instructions correctly vis a vis transferring templates to the upgrade/espresso folder below my theme. I can see the template options when I open a Page but I must have missed something because I am no further forward.

Is there a definitive, step-by-step tutorial on Event Posts? Is my planned use of the wishful thinking?

The target website is:

Hi,

There are three different types of “posts” available.

First off there are the events themselves.

Secondly there are normal posts, and you can add a normal post containing event data by selecting the option that is at the bottom of the event editor. This will create a standard post that can be used in your blog roll etc.

Thirdly is the Custom Post type Event. Now this is generally not needed for most people. What it will do is create a new type of post called Event. These are pretty much the same as a normal post and you can create one (when set up) in the same manner by editing or creating an event and selecting the option at the bottom of the event editor.

Because they are a custom post type, they will not instantly appear in your blog roll. When I use custom posts I generally have a separate section for them, via a custom menu.

If you want to install the custom post type, then directions can be found here https://eventespresso.com/wiki/custom-post-types-basic-setup/, but as mentioned they are generally not needed.
