I want to have the EE event categories added to WordPress categories. For example, if I am adding a widget to my site and want to select a category from
a drop down list, the EE event categories do not appear — only WordPress categories.

Here is a plugin that will almost do what you are asking: https://wordpress.org/plugins/list-custom-taxonomy-widget/installation/. I took a look at that, and at what you are trying to do, and I so want to dive into modifying that plugin to make it fit your requirements, but it’s not something the support team can really do in the forums. If I had to guess right now, you are looking at 20-30 hours of development time. I might look at it in my spare time, because I think the whole WordPress community would benefit from a plugin that used checkboxes in the widget admin to select which taxonomies to display, and gave you a choice to display them as a dropdown or a list.
