Hi you may remember me from last year – we run a Santa’s grotto in December each year, and it is time to set things up again for this year.
Last year we used EE4, with a few modifications, fairly successfully to manage the event sessions.
However the overhead in creating the event pages/tickets was significant. We have 8 individual days each with 24 separate yet identical sessions. I managed these as 192 separate events each with 4 ticket types. It worked but creating all of those and then checking their content for typos etc. took forever! Using the event duplicate option helped a little but, when I was then asked to change the wording on all of them – well you can imagine!
So starting again this year, I thought that I might create 8 events, one for each day, each with their 4 ticket types. I then hoped to add 24 date/times to each of those. The plan being that the user could on a single event registration page, for their selected day, choose the tickets they wanted and the specific session they wanted to attend.
Having searched the documentation I can’t see a simple way to achieve this. I believe that I have two options:
As per last year, create 192 individual events with 4 ticket types
Create an event for each day, add 24 sessions (date/times) and 4 ticket types applicable for each of those sessions – ie. 96 ticket types. Having done this once I can then duplicate it 7 more times changing the date on the new events an all their date/times.
Both of those options seem equally daunting in the amount of effort and the possibility for error.
So, finally, to my question – are my assumptions about the options correct? If they are, is there a third way that isn’t as onerous or error prone?
I had a chat with the rest of the team and currently we cannot see any way around doing it via one of the two options you have already outlined.
