Email deliverability can be challenging. The last thing that you want is for your registration emails to be marked as spam/junk email or not be delivered at all.
Event Espresso itself does not send out any emails. Event Espresso is a plugin for WordPress and it uses a native WordPress function called wp_mail which in turn uses a local email server to send out emails. This means that notifications such as those sent to the registrant/attendee and the event admin / organizer flow through wp_mail and local email server.
On day 3 of this email course, we shared recommendations on how to reduce the chance of an attendee/registrant making a mistake on their entering their email address (e.g. a typo). Another improvement that you can make to your website is to introduce a transactional email service. These services specialize in email delivery which helps ensure that these notifications arrive to the email inbox.
Setup a Transactional Email Service
Step 1 – Pick a Transactional Email Service
There are a variety of transactional email services available. Some popular choices include Postmark App, Sendgrid, Mailgun, and others. Pick a service and then register for an account.
Step 2 – Install a WordPress Plugin for that Service
Login to your WordPress dashboard (WP-admin) and go to Plugins –> Add New. Now search for the name of your transactional email service. For example, if you go with Sendgrid, then search for “Sendgrid.” This will show you plugins that offer the ability to connect to your transactional email service. Pick one and then click on Install Now and confirm. Then Activate the plugin.
Step 3 – Connect the Transactional Email Service to your Website
Go to the settings area for the plugin that you just installed and then enter your credentials and then save changes. For example, if you selected Sendgrid as your transactional email service and installed the Sendgrid plugin, then the settings screen will be in WP-admin (WP dashboard) –> Settings –> Sendgrid.
A transactional email service will benefit your entire WordPress site. Emails from your site will be delivered faster and to the email inbox instead of being lost to a spam/junk mail folder.
This wraps the 7 Days to a Better Registration Checkout course and tomorrow I’ll send you one more email to tie things together for you.
