🎉 New Add-on: Charge Processing Fees

Protect your event revenue from payment processing and administrative costs by adding a percentage fee, a fixed fee, or both to any Event Espresso payment method. Attendees see clearly labeled fees during checkout, and their total automatically updates when they choose a different way to pay (e.g. manual payment/cash compared to card).

Payment processing and administrative costs can add up quickly—especially as your event grows.

Now, with the new Processing Fees add-on for Event Espresso, you can add a percentage-based fee, a fixed fee, or both to the payment methods offered during registration.

This gives you a straightforward way to offset payment costs, protect event revenue, and keep fees separate from your advertised ticket prices.

Recover More of Every Registration

Processing Fees lets you configure an additional charge for any Event Espresso payment method.

For example, you can:

  • Add a percentage fee to online card payments
  • Charge a fixed booking or administration fee
  • Combine a percentage and fixed fee on the same payment method
  • Add a handling fee to invoice payments
  • Keep preferred payment methods completely fee-free

When an attendee selects a payment method with a configured fee, Event Espresso adds the fee to the transaction total as its own clearly labeled line item.

That means no manual calculations, no separate fee products, and no need to increase every ticket price just to account for one payment method’s costs.

Choose a Percentage Fee, Fixed Fee, or Both

Different costs call for different fee structures. Processing Fees gives you the flexibility to use:

  • A percentage fee: Add a percentage of the registration subtotal, such as 2.9%.
  • A fixed fee: Add one flat amount to the transaction, such as $1.00.
  • Both fee types: Add a percentage plus a fixed amount, such as 2.9% plus $0.30.

When both fee types are configured, the percentage is calculated from the registration subtotal before the fixed fee is added. The fees do not compound.

For example, a 2.9% fee plus a $0.30 fixed fee on a $100 registration subtotal adds $3.20 to the transaction.

Configure Each Payment Method Separately

Not every way of accepting payment has the same cost. Processing Fees lets you configure fees directly within each Event Espresso payment method.

You could add a fee to credit card payments, use a different amount for invoices, and leave bank transfers or checks fee-free.

This gives you control over which payment options carry a fee without creating duplicate tickets, changing event prices, or maintaining a separate checkout process.

Use Clear, Customer-Friendly Fee Names

Each percentage and fixed fee has its own customer-facing name. You can use labels such as:

  • Card Processing Fee
  • Registration Service Fee
  • Booking Fee
  • Invoice Handling Fee
  • Payment Administration Fee

If you configure both a percentage fee and a fixed fee, each can have a different label and appears as a separate line item.

Attendees can see what was added to their order before completing payment, helping you create a more transparent checkout experience.

Fees Automatically Follow the Selected Payment Method

Attendees sometimes change their preferred way to pay during checkout. Processing Fees keeps the transaction total synchronized with their selection.

If an attendee switches payment methods, Event Espresso automatically:

  • Removes the previous payment method’s fees
  • Applies the newly selected method’s fees
  • Recalculates the registration and transaction totals
  • Displays the updated amount before payment

If the attendee switches to a payment method without a fee, the previous fee is removed completely.

This keeps the checkout total accurate without requiring attendees or event administrators to make adjustments manually.

Clean Checkout, Accurate Transactions

Processing fees become part of the attendee’s existing Event Espresso transaction. The ticket subtotal, processing fees, existing taxes, and final amount due remain together in one order.

This gives attendees a clear payment experience while providing organizers with an itemized record of how the total was calculated.

The fixed fee is added once per transaction—not once for every ticket or attendee. Percentage-based fees scale with the transaction subtotal, making the add-on useful for both individual and group registrations.

Why This Matters for Current Event Espresso Customers

For current Event Espresso users, Processing Fees is a practical way to protect event revenue while continuing to use the registration and payment tools you already know.

The add-on can help you:

  • Offset payment gateway and administrative costs
  • Keep processing costs separate from ticket prices
  • Configure different fees for different payment options
  • Encourage attendees to use preferred payment methods
  • Reduce manual fee calculations and adjustments
  • Give attendees a clear breakdown of their total

Everything is configured from the existing Event Espresso payment method settings, so there is no additional store, product catalog, or external fee service to manage.

Why This Matters for New Event Espresso Customers

If you are new to Event Espresso, Processing Fees is another example of the control you gain from running event registration and ticketing directly from your WordPress website.

Event Espresso is built for organizers who want control over their:

  • Registrations
  • Ticket prices
  • Payment methods
  • Attendee information
  • Transaction records
  • Checkout experience

Instead of piecing together a form plugin, ecommerce system, event calendar, and payment tools, you can use a platform designed specifically for event registration.

Thinking About Switching From Another Event Plugin?

If you are using another event plugin or a hosted ticketing platform, this is a good time to compare your options.

Some platforms add their own service charges to every ticket sold. Others offer limited control over how fees are calculated, displayed, or assigned to different payment methods.

With Event Espresso and Processing Fees, you control:

  • Which payment methods have a fee
  • Whether the fee is percentage-based, fixed, or both
  • How each fee is labeled for attendees
  • Which payment methods remain fee-free
  • Your event website and checkout experience
  • Your attendee and transaction data

Available À La Carte or With All Access

The Processing Fees add-on is available à la carte for eligible Event Espresso license holders or included with the All Access Pass.

Choose the option that fits your event business:

  • Core plus à la carte: Add Processing Fees as a focused upgrade to your Event Espresso website.
  • All Access Pass: Get Processing Fees along with the complete collection of Event Espresso add-ons.

Protect Your Revenue Without Complicating Checkout

Whether you are collecting payments for conferences, classes, camps, workshops, fundraisers, training programs, or community events, Processing Fees gives you more control over how transaction costs are handled.

Your attendees get a clear, itemized checkout experience. Your team spends less time calculating and reconciling fees. Your events keep more of the revenue they generate.
