Is there an updated (recommended) method to send [paid] event registrations to an email provider (other than MailChimp – we currently use SendGrid) via Zapier? I saw a few people ask about Zapier support and best practices as it pertains to EE from previous years (i.e. the 2017 support post about a work-around – https://eventespresso.com/topic/a-workaround-while-we-wait-for-a-zapier-integration/

I just would like to use the easiest and recommended method.

Hi there,

Currently, the solution we would recommend is to use the WP Fusion integration with Event Espresso, then Zapier from there. That is your quickest and easiest solution but obviously comes with its own cost.

We can’t provide support for workarounds on integrations we don’t have as if you have any further questions on how to do X we simply can not answer them, so we will only recommend either our integrations (if we have them) or another we are aware of that provides support.

Note that the thread you linked to uses Zapier email parsing to pull various data and can work, but we can’t walk through and of the steps to use it.

WP Fusion will work, and I’m a big fan of WP Fusion and use it on other fronts, but its Zapier integration is not ideal (using Webhooks vs native integration). What I’ve found works better is to use the EE Mailchimp integration. MC is free, and you can set up using groups in the free version. I then sync my events to MC, and set up groups to align with the individual events. Once contacts are in MC, it has a strong native Zapier integration and you can do pretty much anything (although I’ve opted for my PieSync.com connector vs. Zapier- which provides ongoing sync vs trigger based).

Thanks for sharing @eosw, I’m sure the above will be useful to more than a few users.

Are you sending any additional details over to MailChimp via custom code or just using the question mapping?

I’m not, goal is always to avoid custom code.
What I’ve done all via free account in MC-
You can have one list/audience, and then (although a bit hidden) you can set up to 60 groups for that audience (https://mailchimp.com/help/getting-started-with-groups/).

I’m syncing per event (which I think is the only way via EE MC integration) to my audience/list AND group. See: https://cdn.zappy.app/0a9784d243130e055080da0f379b370e.png. I have also added in MC Fields to EE questions.

Once in MC I’m using PieSync.com to move to a HubSpot list which I can then run marketing automation from – https://cdn.zappy.app/92a08203637c2d333830ffb1640ac85b.png

Same can be done in Zapier, Just trigger on new Subscriber in list/Audience, then filter based on the group, then any action you want. https://cdn.zappy.app/1687415a9335f63e68d5072425aab49d.png (Just note sample MC trigger in Zapier does not capture group, but the actual trigger does… https://cdn.zappy.app/cf0b4e1d00a3b4f5107b94e8348b4c09.png )

Hope this helps many!

Also – should note to the initial question posed here, this may or may not solve the issue for @killerkonceptz.

This would work for EE->MC->Zaper->Send an email via SendGrid (only action in Zapier for SendGrid). Same goes for Blendr.io.

It looks like Tray.io has better potential if you are using marketing lists in SendGrid – https://tray.io/documentation/platform/connectors/docs/service/sendgrid/ but then we are in a whole new price point (starts at $595/month)

Nicely done, although for some stuff you can’t really avoid custom code.

For example, if you wanted the datetime for the ticket, we don’t have that information available in MailChimp, but there’s a hook that can add it in, like so:

https://github.com/eventespresso/ee-code-snippet-library/blob/master/addons/eea-mailchimp/tw_eea_mailchimp_start_date.php

Just depends on the info you need I guess but either way it’s a nice workaround.

Yeah, I understand and that links into my reply with supporting/recommending/advising/etc these types of workarounds. The way in which our users have managed to work around integrations we don’t have to get what they need done is both awesome and often scary (from a support perspective).

Got it! Date time is not that important to my needs.

I’m mostly surprised that the demand for an EE Zapier integration plugin is so low on the Trello request board, and that no external developers have tackled independently (other then WP Fusion, but as noted not ideal); to us its likely the largest hole in the EE ecosystem.

Same here and whilst we do have our own vision for Event Espresso path we do use the Trello board to help guide us what to work on next.

and that no external developers have tackled independently (other then WP Fusion, but as noted not ideal)

Its a big feature so I guess because of the various ways in which people will want it to function no-one else has taken it on.
