WP User Integration attendee/user connections

The WP User Integration add-on on my single site install has never let admins create registrations for users correctly, as the newly-registered contact/attendee doesn’t link to the user. It only creates a link if you’re registering for an event while logged in as that user. The User Switching plugin has been useful but cumbersome from an admin’s standpoint.

In creating custom templates for the My Events page, I stumbled upon a fix that works on my site, but I can’t figure out why. Here are the changes that work for me.

This means that an admin registering a user can input the first/last name and email when manually adding a registration and the contact created is then linked to the user with a View Linked Contact button on the User edit page and a WordPress User Profile link on the Contact edit page.

get_user_option and update_user_option should work on single site installs, but they don’t for me with this add-on. While it’s great that this fanciness now works on my site, it obviously won’t stay once the add-on gets updated. Maybe you guys have an answer as to why this is happening?

I can recommend opening up a github issue where you can discuss the suggested changes with the dev team. This will usually lead to a pull request and/or some new filter hooks added to allow for you to extend the add-on via the WordPress plugin API. This way you can preserve your changes in a small add-on and they’ll continue to work after an update.
