Why is there a fee for reseting the site license key?

I cannot understand why there is a $10 fee for reseting the site license. Is it not common practice to develop locally and then publish the site to a clients server?

Penalising developers for this practice seems odd.

Hi Corey,

The fee is not applicable for resetting in the case when developing locally and publishing to live.

I’ll re-post some information that can be found on our FAQ page here:

Can I install on a development site?
We will also provide support for one development server that is intended to be used as a testing platform prior to launching an official website. One-click upgrades will only work on one installation of WordPress per license key, so you will want to choose which site you want to use your license on for one-click upgrades. You can activate the license key on your development domain and when you’re ready to launch we can reset the key for free so you can use it on your live website. If you need more than one license key we recommend purchasing the developer license or contacting us to try and arrange two license keys on your account. If you need our assistance, please make the website available for viewing so we can help you as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Ok so why when I request a new key am lead straight to a payment page?
I mean why would you charge for this at all?
What does it matter if someone wants to change there dev site 5 times? Where is the cost involved for EE?

Corey,

The reason you are taken to a payment page is because we charge for moving a license to a whole new site. We don’t charge for moving from dev to live. If you are moving the site from dev to live, click the request reset button and close the page. We will get a notification and reset it for you.

I have reset your license key. You can remove it from the development site and enter it into the live site.

Let us know if you have any issues.

Ok I’m actually just moving to another dev site as I am travelling and now developing online.
I trust there won’t be an issue when moving to the clients server.

Regards
Corey

Corey,

There shouldn’t be an issue. Just let us know when you are ready to move the license and we will reset it for you.
