I am interested in using EE3 for establishing point of sale locations throughout town. Would it be possible to do this and would I be able to print tickets out through a boca printer or a thermal printer? If not, what steps would I need to take to get this done?

Hi,

How are you today?

What are you trying to print specifically, tickets or receipts or something else?Event Espresso should present you with a html or pdf file which you can print from a web page, but that might now work with you POS devices?

I am doing pretty good thanks! I would like to print actual tickets so people can go to several location like they would with the box office and pay and get the ticket from whatever location they want.

Okay, now as far as formatting the tickets to print to a boca printer or a thermal printer, that should not be an issue because the html and css, etc can be edited to adjust the dimensions of the ticket. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
Now, as far as having multiple point of sale location, that should not be an issue because the roles and permission pro plugin allows for just that, for attendants to log in from various locations.
Now, the third issue is what concerns me, and I would like for you to inform me if what type of customization it would take to get the job done. So here is how I see this playing out once we setup this ticketing system with multiple point of sale locations: First, the customer would walk into a location and heads to the ticket counter where he would hand the ticket counter attendant enough cash to pay for 15 tickets. The ticket counter attendant would then take the cash, log into the system and select 15 tickets to be sold. The attendant would then select the print button and automatically 15 tickets would print with specific seat numbers assigned to each one. (And of course, on the backend the EE would update the ticket count available, etc.)
Now, for the technical part. I’m thinking that perhaps we would use the seating chart plugin for users to be able to purchase individual seats online, but we would also customize it in a way in which when they go to point of sale locations, the individual seat number would be assigned automatically so that the ticket counter attendant doesn’t have to do it (because with 15 tickets sold, it would take a while to pick each seat individually.) Of course, both the online ticket sales and point of location sales would update the ticket count in the system automatically. Also, there would need to an interface specifically for ticket counter attendants where they would simply select the section, enter the ticket number to be sold, and then select the print button where the ticket amount would be printed with specific seat numbers.
Now, in your opinion as a developer, would this be a feasible project for a plugin developer to accomplish? Also, how long do you think something like this could take for a developer to complete and for what price (a couple hundred or over one thousand dollars)?
Please let me know what you think.
Thanks!

Hi there,

The ticket templates that are included in the EE3 ticketing add-on were designed to be printed on 8.5 x 11 inch paper. It’s possible to build and use custom templates that look great on small size paper as well. I can recommend following this guide to make a custom ticket template and stylesheet:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-create-a-custom-ticket/#customticket

Along with that, here are two links to some ready made code that was derived from a custom ticket job that involved a smaller ticket printer. You can use these as a starting point if you’d like:
